Kate is a local Chartered Accountant who is a Director at BM Accounting Limited, managing the firms Waipawa office. In January 1921, a group of local body representatives from throughout Central Hawke's Bay held a meeting in Waipukurau with the aim of forming a Power Board to install a network for the supply of electricity to homes and businesses in the district.
Their submission was successful and the Central Hawke's Bay Power Board was constituted by gazette notice on 19 October 1922. On 3 October 1923, a poll of ratepayers gave authority to raise the sum of 150,00 pounds to reticulate install a network of power poles and electricity carrying cables the district. The reticulation of the district went ahead, and by 1928 lines were as far as Wanstead and in 1936, Porangahau went live. The board continued to do this until 1956 when Mr Yewen was employed as line contractor and he completed the reticulation of the district.
During the next three decades the Power Board business continued to build its business, and the districts network electricity assets went from strength to strength. This ended a significant era in the company's history after retailing electricity to the Central Hawke's Bay for 77 years. Centralines in a continuing effort to seek opportunities to enhance the operation of its business was able to negotiate their latest management contract with Unison Networks Limited, signed on 1 October 2002, for a initial period of five years, thereby providing a certain level of consistency to the management and direction of the company. This management contract is still in place today, having been rolled over for an additional 5 years.
With Centralines entering into a second five year contract with Unison Networks to provide management services, Ken is the company's Chief Executive Officer. He has also provided technical and commercial consulting services to the electricity industry in New Zealand. Brent has lived in Central Hawkes Bay all his life and worked for local accountants during his working career. CHB Consumers Power Trust Announces Changes to Centralines Board of Directors.
Tuesday 22 January The Central Hawke's Bay Consumers Power Trust has today announced the pending appointment of two new Directors to the Board of local lines company Centralines, as well as the retirement of Chairman James Aitken. Mr Aitken has advised the Trust that he will be standing down at the next AGM in July, thirteen years after his initial appointment to the Board in July 200. Although the Centralines Board had previously operated with four directors, the Trust felt there was an opportunity to develop the long term strength of the Board and has opted to appoint two new directors at the AGM in July. In addition to achieving leading levels of network reliability and offering a full range of electrical contracting services, Centralines plays an active role in the development of the CHB community, striving to provide excellent employment opportunities and sponsoring a number of significant community services. With a dedicated and highly skilled team, Centralines works to deliver a reliable electricity service through achieving high standards of quality and efficiency to meet the expectations of our customers.
